I have been on the fat smash diet since November 8, 2006. To date, I have lost 30 lbs. (7 weeks). I am in 3rd week of phase III. I am so excited about this program because I'm not just losing weight, but I'm learning to make good food choices in the right quantities and I've increased my physical activity from sedentary to moderate. I feel great. There's no gimmicks, no artificial foods, and no quick fix promises. After the first phase, this programs moves from being a diet to a way of life. Because I still have so much to lose and plateaus are inevitable, I will probably fluctuate between the phases over the next year. I look forward not just to the weight loss, but to the continued transformation toward a healthier lifestyle. Thank you Dr. Smith.

Kind Regards,
Leslie Williams

First I would like to thank Dr.Ian for the motivational call after sending in my profile, I never would've thought I would be detoxing and going through the different phases of the fat smash diet and lose 32lbs .When I started this program I was at my heaviest 262lbs, and now I m at 230 . I still have a ways to go but I m confident that I'll get there with the fat smash philosophy. My family and co workers all see the results and they have started the program, I just want to say good luck to all the Fat Smasher's and keep up the good work and remember "Your 6lbs are not going to be easy"-TED (Celebrity Fit Club) !!!!! LOL

-Thanks DR.Ian

I originally heard about this program on the Opie and Anthony XM radio show. At first, it piqued my interest, but I didn’t really give it much more thought. Growing up, I was involved in competitive sports year round and stayed that way until an injury ended my baseball career in college. From that point, I really enjoyed college (i.e. beer, horrible eating habits, more beer). The bad habits continued for the last three years since I’ve been out of school. I had gone from a guy that was 6’1” 225 at my healthiest, when I was running three miles a day and lifting weights at least an hour a day, to nearly 290 pounds in about 6 years. Over the last couple months, just by tweaking my diet, I got down to around 280. I’m only 25 and still as active as I have wanted to be over the last couple years, but decided it was time for a change.

I got the book last Thursday, September 21 and started the program the morning of the 22nd. After a couple days, the food choices were no longer an issue, and there was no desire to try and cheat. My focus was on exercising as much as possible. I was very serious about changing my lifestyle to the way it once was, so to help with my workouts, I went out and got a very decent stationary bike since running sucks. Over the next 9 days, I did 30 minutes on the bike every day, 5 of those days I did it twice, and another day I played ice hockey in addition to my bike work. After 5 days I was feeling really good, but didn’t want to weigh myself to avoid any expectations. Finally, yesterday morning was day 10. I stepped on the scale at 264 pounds, a loss of 16 pounds in 9 days. Plus, I got to reintroduce the wonderful taste of chicken back into my life.

I am very happy with the way things have started, but I have a long way to go. I eventually want to get down to 220-230 pounds. My plan for phase two is to add meats in to only one, maybe two meals and build on the basics and the good habits I learned in Phase I. I also want to keep exercising once a day every day, and twice a day 4-5 days a week. We’ll see how it goes.

Thank you for the guidance and resources to help me change my life.

I watched the show of course! And after trying various diets, and programs I was very frustrated with my lack of weight loss. It seemed like I working like a horse and still eating wrong with no results. After watching the show and listening to Ian talk about how to eat and what will help lose weight, I figured I would try it. I love it. I don’t feel hungry through the day, and getting on the scale in my 5th day my scale had moved (which it had not done in a long time) I have lost my first goal of ten pounds and look forward to my ultimate goal of losing 20 more pounds and toning. Thank you Ian for sharing your expertise.

Thank you, Thank you. I took the book out of the library and started the 9 days Detox (October 15, 2006). On the ninth day I went on the scale, I was shocked. I lost 12 pounds. I am hooked. I will return the book and purchase a copy . This is going to be my new bible. I am going to Phase II. I can't wait.

This is day 10 after completion of Phase 1. I lost 9 1/2 lbs and am more thrilled than I know how to say. As a 54 year old female, working in administration (on the rear all day), I had all but given up. My tiny little niece told me about this plan; and I tho't "yeah right, another diet to fail." Went online and looked at it and stopped on the way home and bought the book. I've been on every diet there is to be on and have refused medical "suggestion" for surgery. Needless to say, I have murdered my metabolism. This works, and I don't have to measure, weigh food or count calories! The hardest part is getting each meal/snack in and not being on anyone else's lunch schedule at work. But the peace and quiet has been good also. Starting at 305, I have a long way to go - but you'll be hearing from me again. Thank you Dr. Smith. You may have given me years back I wasn't going to get.

I just wanted to thank you, Dr. Ian. I have been on and off diets most of life and this is truly the only one that has worked! I have just finished Phase I and can't believe the results! I've lost 9 pounds, but I lost 2.5 percent body fat!! WOW! I've also lost 2 inches in my bust, 1 1/2 inches from my thighs and 2 inches from my hips. I am an apple shape so I haven't lost anything from my waist YET. Hopefully my waist will soon follow the rest of my body. I have really gotten into exercising again. I walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes a day and actually push myself to go faster.

I can't thank you enough!

I began the 9-day phase on 9/18/06 and by the 9th day, I lost 14 lbs without doing any exercise at all. I followed healthy eating habits for about a week, then did the 9-day phase again. This time, I lost 6 more lbs totaling 20 lbs in about a month's time. This last time, I did do weight training and exercise and cheated just a wee bit. But, my cravings for caffeine (coffee), and all the 'bad' food choices are gone. I am even eating tofu now. Not once did I regain any of the pounds lost. I would like to lose about 20 more pounds to get to my ideal weight. I feel I have the knowledge needed to keep me from overeating again in the future. Thank you Dr. Ian for a great book.

My sister and I decided to give your diet a try after watching CFC. We started on Sept 4, right after Labor day. In the first 9 Days I lost 15 pound and my sister 9! Can I say I haven't seen that number for a long time. My sister and I call each other on our weigh in day and say "Last week you weighed in at..., we made a goal of...., please step on the scale....!' Obviously you've made an impact on us in not just our bodies.

I am on your Fat Smash diet and I must say it has worked for me so far. I just finished phase 1 last night and I weighed in this morning and I lost 19 lbs. Been a long time since I can say I have lost that much. After I saw Angie Stone on the show I knew I could do it too. I did not expect to lose that much but I will take every pound lost that I can get. I have a long way to go but if I can stay focused I know I will get there. Once again thank you for the book and your way of thinking which is now my way of thinking. Guess SMASHING is now my way of life. My hat goes off to you.

I heard about the Fat Smash Diet from Celebrity Fit Club (one of my favorite shows) and also from my aunt Debbie who lost 9 pounds in Phase I. I am 15 years old and couldn't begin to tell you how many diets I've been on that failed! I have been over weight since kindergarden. Now at age 15, I am 5'1 and weigh 185 lbs. I am very scared for my health! So I started the diet on Thursday, August 10th and in just 3 days I have lost 6 pounds! Its incredible! I am so excited to finally be getting the weight off and not have to count calories or write down everything I eat! My goal is to lose 60 pounds by May 28th. Thats the day I am going to the beach in a 2 piece for the first time in 10 years! I will update again when Phase I is over and I can eat some meat! Haha!

Thank you so much Dr. Ian for giving me a chance to be a normal teenager for once.

I started Phase 3 of the meal plan today and I am elated. I started the meal plan after enjoying the Taste of Chicago the day before. When I initially weighted in I was the heaviest I have ever been. I was at 144, when my comfortable weight is 130 or below. I didn’t think this plan would work for me but it really did. After the first 9 days I had only lost 4 pounds and felt I must have done something wrong compared to what others were saying. I stuck in there and now crave fruit every day. I panic if I don’t take something to work with me. It opened my eyes to the wonderful array of fruits and vegetables available and the many ways to prepare good and healthy food. I have only eaten broiled chicken and salmon a few times, once I was allowed to add meat to my diet. I have on several occasions enjoyed an oriental mix for a snack, and I’m not sure if this is allowed or not. I did not find it on either the do’s or don’ts list. I thought this might hurt me, but when I weighted in today I was down to 133 pounds. Wow, I haven’t seen that weight in almost a year. I’m so excited and I’m spreading the word about this rejuvenating detoxification and meal plan. I still look at a potato chip every now and then, but turn away and make a better selection. I know I can now add a few more items like bread and dessert, but I’ve already decided to eat in moderation and then again maybe I’ll pass all together. Thank you Dr. Smith I always believe you can do whatever you set your mind to, although it was harder than I thought, but doable at any rate. I prefer the healthy method of weight loss over surgical procedures any time

Great News!!!! My friend and I just finished Phase 1, and we both lost weight, she lost 4 pounds, and I lost 6 pounds. Needless to say we are so happy with each others success with Phase 1. We both thought Phase 1 would be hard to follow, but it was really easy and the recipes were great and easy to prepare, plus delicious. We are starting Phase II today, and look forward to eating some meat! We will report back in 3 weeks to share the continued success of the "Fat Smash Diet".

Thank you.

I have no pictures to share, but I had to tell you how much I love the diet, or should I say new way of life. I just finished 90 days and lost a total of 32 pounds and almost two sizes. I was on my way to wearing a size 18 and I was getting so frustrated with myself and my weight. My husband heard about your book on his XM Satellite Radio and bought your book for me try. I had to go out and buy an entirely new wardrobe, I had absolutely nothing that still fit me.. it felt so great, I have not been a size 14 for many years. I am not done yet though.... I actually just restarted the detox phase because I want to lose at least 20 more pounds and one more size by Thanksgiving. My husband promised to take me on a cruise if I reached my goal...

I tell everyone about the book and how great the diet is.

Thank you,

I just started phase II today. At the beginning of phase I, I weighed myself. I weighed 163. My friend and I did it together. She weighed 124.5. The first 3 days were by far the hardest. I am a person who loves her junk food. I eat burgers with bacon and mushrooms, pizza, and anything virtually unhealthy. I do however work out 4 days a week, but I wasn't losing any weight. I was maintaining for a long time.

I am thankful for this book. I weighed myself today (day 10) and I had lost 9 pounds. My friend lost 6 pounds. I am now at 154. I feel better about myself and will strive and continue to follow this book. I do have to admit that on day 9 I lost it all to a craving and bit the head off of a chocolate rabbit. I felt so guilty and got on the treadmill for 1 hour to work it off. The best part about this diet is having a friend to do it with you. I don't know if I would have the willpower without her. She has certainly kept me straight. All my friends and coworkers have noticed the weight loss and want to see my book (I take it with me everywhere).

The advantage this diet has over other diets is that it actually teaches you how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This book even breaks down what you can and cannot eat. With other diets it can be ambiguous as to what is allowed and can be frustrating when you are not sure. I was a fan of the show "Celebrity Fit Club," and when I saw this book I said to myself "let me try this. If they can do it, I can too." I am sure glad I bought this book. My recommendation if you try this diet is to have some kind of support group. My coworkers made sure I didn't crash it as well as my friend. If I didn't have that I don't think I would have made it.

Before I bought this book, I really didn't know how to eat healthy. Now I understand how to do that. Thank you Dr. Ian. I am grateful for this book. I look forward to completing the 90 days.

Sometimes you need just something simple to follow and I found this Fat Smash Diet was that for me. It made me actually live a healthier lifestyle.

We all know what to eat and what not to eat, it's common sense, right? But the way that Dr. Smith has presented it, makes it a plan that you can stick to.

I have already lost 20 pounds. That might not sound like much, however the most important change has been my muscle tone, skin tone, and more importantly my outlook.

I feel younger, I look younger.

I am 42 years old with a twelve-year-old and a nine-year-old, and I'm not looking like that typical 42-year-old soccer mom anymore.

Thanks Dr. Smith!!!

Happy Days To All!

I began the Fat Smash Diet on Monday, July 10, 2006. I was prepared to take on this new challenge to move me from the plateau that I've been stuck on for over a year. This diet was the answer. I followed Phase 1 as closely as possible. I eliminated the egg whites because I just couldn't stand them! I cheated just a little by getting on the scale during my nine day detox. I began the program at 253.6, on day three I weighed in at 251, down 2.6 pounds. I was elated! On day 5, I was feeling a little depressed and needed a pick me up so I jumped on the scale. My weight was down to 249.4, a total weight loss of 4.2 pounds in 5 days! I'm in a new set of numbers that I hadn't seen for a while. I'm looking forward to tomorrow for my official weigh in!

The benefits of this program go further than the weight loss. In the nine days my cravings for sweets and salty foods have vanished. Now, I still think about them but I don't crave them. I have noticed a difference in the way my clothes are fitting, I feel energized and refreshed! I have a different outlook on my future! I know that I can do it! This diet has made it so easy.

So for anyone who's contemplated on getting on this program, go for it! It's worth the time and effort. Good luck to all!

Valerie D. Herron

Update:

It is Day #10, or Day #1 on Phase Two.  I couldn't wait to get on the scale!  I'm keeping a Fat Smash diary to assist me tracking my food intake and exercise.  Monday, July10th my weight was 253.6 lbs. and today Wednesday, July 19th my weight is (drum roll please) 240.8 lbs.  I have lost 12.8 lbs.  I am so pleased with the diet that I thought about doing Phase 1 again!  I do realize the importance of each of the phases and look forward to three weeks on Phase 2.

Dr. Smith,

I first heard you on the Opie and Anthony show and realized that you were the same guy that was on some show that my fiance watched. After listening to you on the show a few times I realized that I needed to do something.

I began the Fat Smash Diet on Wednesday June 7 weighing in at 243# at 6' tall. I followed it as closely as I could. Since I am a Corporate Chef there were trying times during Phase I. Throughout my day I am constantly around food; fried chicken, burgers, fries, cookies, cake, soda, bread and the all time favorite of chefs-COFFEE. When I had to taste food prepared by my staff, I tasted it, I didn't eat it. The second day was probably the most trying as I felt extremely tired and lethargic. But it passed. On Friday morning, June 16 I got onto the scale and was elated to see that I had lost 17# and was down to 226#. I continued on through Phase II following the diet closer. When I had gotten on the scale 3 weeks later on July 7 I was down 9# to 217#. Today is the end of the second week of Phase III and I have lost another7# to 210#. I haven't changed my diet much in Phase III except for two occasions when I had a turkey burger on whole wheat toast.

Being a chef, my customers always tell me that the portions that I serve are too small. An entree that I serve averages out to 5oz. of protein. They are looking for something 7-8oz. and that is probably the biggest problem with society today. As a chef I am trying to educate my customers that are willing to listen, and some have. I have always known what I should and shouldn't eat, and I must say that my biggest problem has always been portion sizes and the sheer volume that I was able to eat. Today I am eating 6 small meals each day, food is tasting better, and I am drinking water constantly throughout my day.

After just over 6 weeks I have gone from 243# to 210#. My goal is to get down to 199# and to continue this new way of looking at food. This diet has even motivated my fiance to try it. She only wants to lose about 7 or 8 # and after Phase I she lost 3#. Thanks again.

Hi Dr. Ian,

Thanks to Opie and Anthony (and Lil Jimmy Norton) for having you on XM satellite radio 202. I am ending Phase I and beginning Phase II. So weigh in time. I began at 212.5 pounds and now weigh 201. I lost 11.5 pounds! I stuck to the food portion of the diet completely but my job is physical so in the beginning I didn't have the energy for the exercise. I did pick up my pace at work to try to compensate. Now, at the end of Phase I, I feel completely different. My energy is back to normal and more importantly my stomach issues (ulcer and hiatal hernia) hardly bother me now due to healthier foods and portion control (no overeating). The recipes are good and I didn't really crave foods to make me cheat. Granted I tried to stay away from food talk at work and food smells. Also, food shopping was tough. I admit I only went with my wife one time. Fortunately, my wife, Robin, made most of the recipes and is supporting me tremendously. Thank you Robin and thank you Dr. Ian.

John

PS I will start exercising.

Thank you for an amazing diet!!!!

My husband and I started may 1st this year and wow the resluts are amazing, My husband lost over 20 pounds and I lost about 12.

I started last year my own colabarated diet, worked allright 20 pounds in a year, but Ther was more to go, I moved over from Sweden about 9 years ago, and lived a pretty healthy lifestyle, smaller portions, a lot of biking and walking, ended up in San Fransisco walked and walked, then Sacramento, suburbia and 2 kids later I had gained over 50 pounds...

My Husband a vivid weightlifter, climing mountain outdoors man gained his share too when the kids arrived, We decided to try your diet after watching Cel. fit club.

My husband is so impressed with how you put together the diet, he even managed a business trip to europe with no desserts, not even gelatto in Milan.

Thank's again from a couple of Fatsmashers in Sacramento

My daughter was the one that got me interested in the fat smash diet after she lost 10 pounds in Phase I. I try to be health conscious (even thought I know I am overweight) and so I asked her many questions about the diet. I bought the book last week, but started the diet on Sunday, June 18th. In just one day, I have lost 2 pounds and as others have said, I really have not missed anything. I also realize that I have to take one day at a time, but this diet will help me with this. Thank you so much and good luck to everyone including my special angel, my daughter.

Just wanted to give you an update on my diet progress. I am pleased to say that I lost 8 1/2 lbs after the first 9 days, now I'm in Phase 2 and I have lost a total of 13 pounds...since June 1. This is without a doubt the easiest 13 pounds I have ever lost. I'm 10% toward my goal weight. I haven't had a piece of bread for 19 days. This is really a remarkable feat for me because I "love" bread and bread products. I don't even feel like I am missing it, which is something I never thought possible.

I have told several friends about your book/diet and some have already started the program with me. I have tried several diets before (many of them very expensive) and I thought I couldn't lose weight without being in one of those programs. I can see that I was wrong. I am looking forward to continuing with this program and anticipate even greater results.

I will send another progress update when I get to Phase III.

PROGRESS UPDATE (AUG 8, 2006):

Here's my exciting update: I have been having great success with the Fat Smash Diet. I am certainly a fat smasher now. I have lost 20 LBS!!!...since June 1. I have been exercising 5 days a week and even though I can't exercise as vigorously as I'd like to, I am being consistent, which seems to be paying off. I even went on vacation and I tried to stay on the diet as much as possible, but I did gain a few, but as you can see, I've lost that and more. I am really enjoying my new eating habits. I do take a nibble (literally) of foods I shouldn't have occasionally but I get right back on task for the next meal, and that has made me lose consistently. Some days I'm losing 1/2 lb. per day. I'm feeling good and people are beginning to notice. Even though I have several more pounds to lose I'm definitely on my way, and I don't plan to look back. I'm looking forward to the next two months.

I have to say this is the first diet plan that worked for me in any way. Usually I get frustrated after not seeing any results or minimal results after a week. I weight myself today (day 10) and lost 10 Lbs. After just a few days on phase 1 I actually grew accustomed to the lack of meats and other fats and actually have not craved my old foods much at all. I'm actually tempted to stick to something closer to phase 1 for a little while longer. I have just felt 100 times better than I have in the past year. Great plan Dr. Ian, I'll reccomend it.

So I finished phase I on thursday evening and friday I was down 11lbs. I feel great and really have no cravings for any food not in plan (except bread, but I'll live). In fact I don't even feel like adding the meats allowed in phase II, I'll probably slowly start working them in but I'm pretty content on egg whites and the vast amount of Soy products out there. Thanks for the diet, it works amazingly well. Glad you were on Opie or Anthony or I never would have heard of this.

Oh, I'm still doing light weights and high reps, I haven't noticed any real muscle loss so pretty happy with that. I'm thinking of splitting the workouts into two a days.

I'm 32 and have put on 15-20 pounds (205lbs at my heaviest, on a 6 foot frame) since making a career change. It had disturbed me, but nothing ever hit me to do anything about it. As my son went from baby to toddler (2 now) and my looming (Oct. '06), the idea that I was going to need to do something was getting bigger. One day on the "Opie and Anthony Show", on XM, I heard Dr. Smith talking about his new book. Honestly, it was nothing I hadn't heard or known, but Dr. Smith just put it into a plan that made sense to me. That, coupled with the idea that I needed to do something, I became motivated to act. I bought the book, told my fiancee that I was doing this diet (she jumped on board as well), and away we went.

Today we begin Phase II. Phase I was tough for the first 2 days because we are/were restaurant folk that are used to eating whatever we can get, when we can get it. By the end, we were in the groove. Exercise is a drag, but when I started to see results I had to get up and go. Also, we have hit a creative mode in the kitchen. We had an unbelievable tofu and vegetable stir fry! Anyway, to the point, after the first phase I lost 9 pounds (she lost 6lbs!) and I'm ready to try to lose about 15lbs more. I have to look good in the wedding pictures, right?

You’ve GOT to change the name of the “diet”!!! Everyone that I’ve been honest enough to share with and encourage to join me on my lifestyle change has said “You don’t need to be on a diet”! Which is right but I’m not dieting, the book has given me structure and the mindset to get back on track with proper nutrition.

I typically don’t weigh myself, but have lost 1½ dress sizes (from a 2 going into a 4, down to a size 0). Now, I’ve not been able to workout like I want to or used to do (I used to run 5 miles a day) and I don’t look bad or ill from the weight change, but I’ve still managed to drop unwanted/unnecessary pounds from a poor diet!

I feel fabulous, have more energy and have begun preaching the benefits of Fat Smash!! So much so that I had to ship a book from Miami to my mother in Indiana because your book sold out there!!!!

You really should do a follow-up and call it the “Fat Smash Lifestyle”—which is for life!

Thanks again for your work. It has truly benefited me and I will spread the word!!!!!

Dr. Smith:

I am 2 weeks into the diet and it's great. I have lost 10 lbs. to date. I was an avid runner up until last September. I started having knee problems and after 2 MRI's and one surgery, I was told not to run anymore. I had put on 15lbs. since I stopped running with no end in sight. I tried to cut back without success. This was depressing me deeply. You should know that about 5 years ago I weighed 248 lbs. and was having health problems. I started running to loose weight and did some diet modification and I trimmed down to 200lbs. Then came the knee problems and the weight just started to pile on again. At 45 it's not easy to lose the weight, but I am finding your diet easy to follow. The 2nd phase of the diet is going great and I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I travel all week long for my job and thought this would take some work to incorporate it in. I am happy to say you really can use this diet on the road.

Thank you,

Chris Granger

I am a personal trainer and have always been pretty small but when I turned 35 I put on five pounds and then at 40 another five pounds. The doctors told me to just get used to it but I didn't want to. I have tried everything but always failed. I was ready to throw away all of my cloths in my closet when I started your diet. I am about to finish up the last phase and I don't want it to end. I have lost all but three of the 10 lbs. and am back to wearing everything in my closet.( size 3). I feel great and even feel like it can't possibly work. I'm eating all the time. This diet is a must. Thanks.

Dear Dr Ian,

I would like to thank you for such a simple tool to lose weight. Amazing. I heard of you from XM radio on O and A. I am a truck driver and only get home on the weekends. I didn't hear where your book was on sale, so the first week I didn't find it at Barnes and Noble. I did find it the next week at Borders.

After getting the book, I have to say that I was slightly disappointed, because there had to be more to a sensational diet then the few pages that were contained within your books covers. I mean there had to be stringent rules to follow and tons of things to know. This brought me into the diet with low expectations, but started none the less.

I am now on day 5 and have lost 13 pounds from a week ago. (I got your book Tues, started Wed, and today is Sun, wish your Mom happy Moms day).

I initially thought that my varying schedule would ruin all hopes of making this work for me. Some days I start at 5am, others Noon. It really makes a diet schedule almost impossible. I did, however, just try to follow the plan as best I could. Whenever my day started I would eat a banana or something. I then unload at the store I am delivering (This involves exercise as I get in the trailer and unload it one box at a time). If I am hungry after that store or inbetween the next 2 or 3 stores, I will grab a cucumber or grapes. (I am such an idiot, of course you know what I'm eating in Phase one, told you I was an O and A fan). At the end of the day I will have enough to stop any hunger I have and read a bit before bed. How much more simple can a plan be?

I know I am not following your diet to the letter, but am trying with my difficult schedule, to make it work for me. I am here to attest that even with the most odd of schedules, that Dr. Ian's diet can work for anyone under any circumstance.

Ian, I know I have rambled on slightly, but I wanted to relate to you personally, a very irratic daily life and that your excellent diet can even work in the worst of these. Thank you for making my life better. I feel better, more energy and wonder how I could eat so horribly for so long and not be in worse shape then I am currently.

Start weight: 265
Day 5 weight: 252
Goal weight: 200

I am not sure that I will get to your books model weight, but I made that my goal. I think the last time I was 200 was in my 2nd year in college, while I was playing Div II football.

Enough about you, lets talk about me! I know that after friends that I work with in truck driving see the results, there will be a very definite interest how I did it. I want to tell you that I will pass on your book and website that they can get to and start for themselves. I've told several others that I was starting the diet.

I'm on my last day of Phase 1 and I have to say, I've never felt better. I don't know how much weight I've lost yet, but my clothes are looser and I couldn't be more happy and full of energy. I really thought it was going to be difficult to follow the schedule of eating 4-5 times a day and stick to only fruits and vegetables in Phase 1, but it's so simple. My Mother decided to go on Fat Smash with me and she is doing great as well.

I travel for business quite often, and I was nervous when I first started Fat Smash knowing that I had a trip pending and several more coming up in the next few months. I'm confident that I will be able to stick to the plan and still see results even on the road.

Thanks Dr. Smith. Your program is top notch!!!!

I thought this was another diet going no where. I could not lose weight for a one year. It seems as if my body was in a defensive mode. So, a friend told me about this diet. Yeah right!!! Hey, it actually worked. The hardest part was getting through day two and three. After that, it was fine. The vegetables and fruits were great. How could I have forgotten about the taste of these items over the years? I am going to continue into the next phase. I actually lost 8 pounds in 9 days. I don't want to stop. This is a life changing style for me and not considered a diet. Dr. Smith made it so easy and there is no measuring anything. Dr. Smith thanks for giving us the best things that life has to offer. Again, thanks.

Update time! Let me tell you how happy I am. I started phase one about 3 weeks ago. I did my 9 days of cleansing. As you see below, I had gone from 220 to 185 but could not get any lower. Well following your guidelines, I have gone well below now. I lost 3 lbs in the 9 days of phase one and was happy with that. To get off 185 and down to 182 was good. Then in 5 more days of phase 2 I was down to 180, a huge accomplishment for me. Last time I saw that was over 20 years ago.

Well then came the challenge, only 5 days into phase 2 we were off on vacation to Myrtle Beach and VA Beach for about 10 days and worst of all, during Easter. I went down with the attitude that I was going to use your philosophies of eating veggies and fruits often during the day but allow myself to enjoy the seafood at dinner. If I could some how come back the same weight or only gain 2-3 lbs, then I would be ok with that. When we were doing our driving down and back I ate at Subway, tuna wrap with veggies, instead of Burger King or McDonald’s fried chicken sandwiches. I ate chicken Caesar salad for lunches that we had fixed ourselves. Well today was the big day after getting home last night. I dreadfully got on the scale this morning and shortly there after yelled out loud. My wife said how much did you go up? Much to my surprise in 10 days of vacation I dropped another 5 lbs and in at 175. I can not believe it, vacation and lost 5 lbs! I ate some great fried seafood, I did not miss out on any of the great dinners I love so much. Of course, I had veggies with dinner and no bread or rice.

You should remove the word Diet from your title and insert the word Lifestyle. My Mom asked me this morning how much longer I would be on the diet and I corrected her and said it was no diet, this is my life from this point forward. I am 5 lbs away from the weight my cardiologist wanted me at, but I have already lowered my personal goal to 160 lbs. Trust me if I never lose another pound, I am a very happy man. But hey if your going to swing the bat, why not try to hit a home run, right?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! My entire family appreciates what you have done in order to help my health. I got myself the first 35 lbs off but you have helped me get the toughest last 10 lbs off. I don’t mind telling you that on more than one occasion during the phase one did I really think about stopping, but for some reason I just kept on going. Am I glad I did! Everyone I see talks about how great I look and asks what am I doing, I just continue to tell them all about your book.

UPDATE: Yesterday I hit 169!! My goal with fat smash was to get me to 170 and now I am at 169!! That is a total of 51 lbs lost!

I ordered this book as a last resort. After having my third baby, I tried to get rid of the fifty pounds I have gained over the years but I just couldn't. I watched Celebrity Fit Club and was inspired (especially by Kelly). I researched and found the Fat Smash Book and thought I would give it a try. I am happy to say that after finishing the detox program, I lost 10 pounds. I started phase 2 and I am trucking along.

Dr. Smith, thank you for such a great book. I am excited to know that even if I fall, it is a forgiving plan. I feel like I have gotten over an addiction of SUGAR. Most people don't realize that bad food (sugar) in excess is just as addictive as alcohol. For me, it was my drug and this book has broken that addiction and taught me how to love and enjoy the food my body needs.

Thanks,
Tonya

My name is Tony Arcaro. I'm a musician and got used to a very "unhealthy" lifestyle. After swilling down pints of Guinness and eating "what" I wanted and "when" I wanted I found myself blowing up like a balloon. The late hours at which I worked didn't help. I also work a few days a week at a music wholesaler and climb up and down a ladder several times a day to get supplies. I found myself wheezing and feeling like I was ready for the grave.....I was watching Tavis Smiley one night and saw Dr. Ian. Everything he said seemed so logical and there was absolutely no hype or BS (no fat). When he said the book was written the same way, it really sparked my curiosity so I sent for it.

I've been on the diet (lifestyle change) for 10 days now. I balked at and was excited at the same time about the vegetarian stage. Miraculously, I was feeling pretty good after a couple of days. I dreaded the walking (about 45 minutes a night), but found myself getting stronger with a lot more energy. However, the thing I dreaded the most was the upcoming Sunday. I'm Italian-American and have eaten some type of pasta with sauce almost every Sunday of my life. My wife had a brilliant idea although I was very skeptical at first. She stopped at a vegetable market and picked up some spaghetti squash. She made a light marinara (tomato) sauce and we had that for dinner. I was very careful to portion myself and even cheated just a bit with a VERY LIGHT sprinkle of Romano cheese. It was fantastic! If fact, I enjoyed the vegetarian phase so much that I'm staying on it for a couple of extra days.

We have some lamb shanks in the freezer so I'll try some tomorrow night (phase II), but I'll eat a small portion at most. The fact that I feel I can actually portion myself is absolutely amazing, and the way I feel now goes off the charts. I lost 10 pounds to date. My only weakness is wanting to eat late at night. I'm determined to beat that even though I've just had fruit. Thanks for the new lease on life, Dr. Ian.

I happened to see Dr. Smith on "The View" one morning and everything he said made so much sense to me. Immediately, I went to his website and ordered the book. When I first received the book and glanced through it, I was a bit discouraged with the foods available for the first 9 days so put the book down and went about my business. I have been trying without success for years to get off a mere 10 pounds but no success. So frustrating. For someone who never had a weight problem, all of a sudden at age 50, the pounds began to stay put. I exercise and really thought I was eating healthy foods so I just could not figure out what the problem was. After a couple of weeks, I picked the book up and sat down and read it cover to cover. I thought "okay -- let's just try this and see what happens." On February 19, 2006, the new way of eating began and I can honestly say, this has been the only plan that has worked for me and that I have actually enjoyed. I have lost 10 pounds to date and am going for another 5. I feel fantastic and in place of the glass of wine or martini, I enjoy a wonderful, cold glass of tonic with a slice of lime. So refreshing it is really now my drink of choice. Now who would have thought that -- not me. It's true. I love the brown rice combined with all kinds of vegetables, the fruit, small portions of meat, the yogurt, etc. I really thought this way of eating would be so difficult trying to feed myself and keep my husband happy at the same time but it has been so easy. To say the very least, I am soooooooo delighted with the results of the Fatsmash diet. Thank you Dr. Smith. Yours is the only book on the shelf now. All the other diet books have been donated.

Thank you so much for this no frills program! I've always known that I need to eat right, but as weird as it sounds, I just didn't know how. My detox was extremely successful-I lost 9.5 lbs! I'm now in my 4th day of Phase 2 and I just keep feeling better and better. There is so much more to this than weight loss- I have more energy, my mood has DEFINITELY improved and my skin is absolutely glowing!

Also, I have to say thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to answer my questions! In a world where it seems like fad diets are published every 5 minutes to make a quick buck, it's refreshing and encouraging to have a doctor create a program AND offer support and advice.

Thanks again!

Schelly PetersIn 2005 I packed on 30 unwanted pounds after two surgeries, a year of very little exercise and some of the least healthy eating I had done in my life. I knew that in 2006 I had to make a change.

When my husband and I began the nine day detox period in late February I weighed in at 180 lbs. By the morning our10th day I had lost an amazing 8 lbs. I was officially a believer in the Fat Smash Diet! My husband would not get on the scale, and has not to date, but there was definitely a noticeable difference in him on the 10th day and, of course, a bigger difference in him and especially me now.

The first five days were the most difficult for us and by the 6th day we found ourselves counting down the days until we would eat meat again. Ironically, after missing meat so much at first we are at the point now that meats are almost eliminated completely from our diets.

It is now April 3rd and I have lost a total of 24 pounds. I am in the last phase of the diet and plan to make the Fat Smash Diet a permanent part of our healthier lives.

Peri HigginsI just completed Phase 1 of your Fat Smash Diet and I am thrilled with the results! I decided to follow your diet because starting at age 35 gravity had begun to take it's toll and my body began to lose tone. This was particularly disturbing for me because I was a collegiate athlete and never had concerns about my body. I recently started working out and although I was exercising regularly, I was not seeing noticable results. I did not need to lose a lot of weight but simply wanted to lose some of the extra 'stuff' around my mid-section. I lost 7 pounds in nine days and did not have to starve myself! In the process, I've also come up with some interesting and tasty meals that my husband (who was not on the diet) even enjoyed. I'd recommend this diet to anyone. It doesn't matter if you want to lose 50 pounds or 5 pounds. It works!

I really love this diet! I lost 7lbs in the first nine days and lost 13lbs after 1 month. I work out Monday-Friday and in the 2 months of watching my diet and exercising I saw no change in my appearance or weight. After the 9 day Fat Smash detox I lost 7lbs! I have been on the Fat Smash diet for 5 weeks and I have lost 15lbs, and I have not been perfect. I immediately felt different in the first nine days, I was satisfied with smaller amounts of food and everything tasted better. Now if I really want something sweet a bite will do. I have had a couple bad days and when I got on the scale I expected to see a gain, but I still saw losses or I remained at the same weight! I look forward to buying some new clothes, now that everything I have is starting to get too big on me! If you dedicate yourself to the first nine days, you will see the results and you will not want to turn back! Goodluck!

I purchased your book Fat Smash Diet and thought this would be just another attempt to lose weight. I honestly can say that I thought I would last about 2 days on Phase I. Boy, was I wrong! I have just completed Phase I Detoxification and I am so CLEAN. You have entitled this phase DETOXIFICATION and it truly is a detoxification that your body goes through. I found it so easy and I feel great inside and outside! I have lost 7 pounds and .5 inch from my waist. The best part is that I don't miss the meat and the refined carbohydrates. I am so proud of myself for not cheating and having a great time with your program. I would recommend this book and program to people who have a desire to truly detox, if they are considering a colonic I would suggest trying Phase I because I did and it worked! Thank you for putting me on the right path to a healthier lifestyle.

We have been on the diet for probably 3 weeks and I have lost 8-10 pounds. We made it about 5 days into the phase one and ate some things that we should not have for a few days, but we went back and added those days to phase one to make up. I have had more energy and get up on MWF @ 6:30 to workout (running, elliptical machines, basketball) and also workout again MWF afternoon when I have spare time at school (Instead of sitting in the student union and getting tired). Now, to tell you the truth, we have not been perfect on the diet, but eating small snack/meals throughout the day has worked and it does not take much at all to fill us up anymore. Portioning has become much easier. I am so happy that my pants are beginning to fit loosely and I just feel more energetic. Thank you!

I lost about 5 pounds in Phase I. On a side note, I want to tell you how wonderful this program is. After years and years of struggling, I feel like I've finally found something that I reasonably do. Not to mention that I just feel better. I once had chronic, severe headaches and took ibuprofen every day. I haven't had a headache since day one of Phase I. I sleep better, am more energetic, and just feel better about myself. I have a long way to go to reach my goal, but am feeling very confident. Thank you for finally offering something that makes sense...that's not a diet, but a program for life that is attainable.

A friend told me about this diet and spoke of her & her husbands’ success. I ordered the book & dove right in. I did some online searching for various recipes to keep the phase one detox interesting and fun and discovered that more and more people were changing the way they were eating. There is an abundance of healthy recipes out there!

Today is Day 9 of Phase one for me. I feel more energized, and healthy. I've been spreading the word about how good this diet will make you feel. I like to say it's more than a diet; it transforms how you view food and guides you into making better decisions with what you eat. I opened a yahoo group for those who would like to share their successes, recipes and general questions with fellow “fat smashers”.

I am totally convinced that this is the diet of all diets. Actually it’s an eating plan for life!

I am now in Phase II and have lost 6lbs and lots and lots of inches all over. I have gone from size 12 to 10 already mainly due to the inches lost in my waist and hips.

I was already exercising about 3-4 days per week before I started the diet, but I have increased it to about 5-6 days because I have SO much energy. My co-workers are all watching in amazement and have ordered their books for speedy delivery!

I just wanted to let you know that phase 1 went awesome. I ended up losing 7 pounds after the 9 days, my clothes are fitting much better and I felt so great! I am now in phase 2 and have to say, I am so impressed with your program!!! It's just what I've been looking for!

The first 3 days are hard, but after you get through those it gets easier! By then, I already felt so much better and my clothes were already looser, so that was motivation to stick with it! Most of it is mental, so if you can just get past your mind telling you you need something else, you can do great!!! Your body will thank you so much for doing this!!!

I went from a size 12 to a size 8 and have lost many inches. I was dragging myself out of bed to exercise in the morning before the program, now I am exercising 5 days a week with energy to spare!!! Thanks so much!

I ordered the book because of my experience with the first phase of the diet. I watched the Celebrity Fit Club show. It worked for me better than any diet I have tried before in all my years. I began to feel good without losing any weight. Cleansing out my system in the first phase of the diet helped my high blood pressure; pains in my legs.

Ken VanacoroI do not come from a small family, and I am not talking quantity of people, but quantity of weight. In our youth, we were either ex-weightlifters, ex-boxers, ex-bouncers, ex-tough-guys. When my (other) cousin's wife told us that she started this diet, I was a little skeptical of the vegetarian aspect of the first nine days. But after a brief discussion, my wife and I decided to give it a try. Not only had we both been unsuccessful at loosing weight recently, but I can now see we both forgot how to eat.

We started the diet even before getting the book, with a little coaching from Sheryl, who has started a week before us.

The first four days were pretty tough... I wanted a piece of meat! But since we saw results right away, and we realized the eating four to five times a day is the key to managing our hunger, we have been cruising ever since. When we reached phase two, and finally has that piece of meat, not only was it gratifying, but we were satisfied with the smaller portion.

What I have learned is:
1. I forgot how much I like fruit and vegetables.
2. I absolutely forgot how to eat properly, mostly because of the "fad" diets I've been trying.

I don't refer to Fat Smash as a diet, but a re-education on how to eat "normal". If anyone out there thinks this can't work, I'd like to say it can, and it does. If I can do it anyone can! By the way, I've taken off 16 pounds in three weeks. My wife has taken off 10 pounds. That is all the encouragement we need to Smash It!

Thanks again, it is a great plan.

I have been fairly fit and thin most of my life except for the last 5-6 years I put on 25-30 pounds that I just could not shake. I tried many diets, some had minor success most of them failed. Just recently I went to a very popular diet center for 10 weeks and lost only 2 pounds. (I did not cheat -- did everything I was told to do religiously -- it was very discouraging). After watching Celebrity FitClub, I ordered the book and began this diet with little faith. My the middle of the 2nd day I could not believe how good I felt. It was not hard, I have more energy and less cravings, and I felt the weight coming off. As of now I am on the diet 3 weeks and I lost 12 pounds. I am looking forward for the next few months and making this my new lifestyle rather than a diet.

Thanks for giving me the hope that I can not only lose weight but feel great too.

First of all, THANK YOU for taking the time to answer my questions! I have been the on Fatsmashdiet for 15 days and have lost a solid 8.5 pounds. Over the past 8 years I have struggled with my weight and attempted many diet plans. I also developed hypothyroidism in June of 1998, just after I had my daughter. Because of this I really need to watch my diet and exercise closely, I can put on weight very easily if I am not careful. This is truly a miracle diet for me. I can honestly say that in the 15 days I have been on this diet I have not felt hungry. It is so easy to follow, you can take it with you and eating out is not a problem. My energy level has really changed since I started. My body is really responding to all the healthy foods, craving fruits and vegetables. For the first time I feel and believe that I can lose the weight I need to and enjoy myself as I am losing the weight. All the other diets have been so much work, with this diet I feel freedom. The fact that you do not have to weigh everything and count your calories everyday really works for me. I feel like l am not dieting but just eating healthy. I am trying to weight myself once a week, but I had to step on the scale this morning to see if Phase II works as well as Phase I did for me and I was down two pounds. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gained 30 pounds after quiting smoking 3 years ago and cannot seem to budge it off. I have also passed 50 so I know my metabolism is not what it used to be. I have tried numerous diets and exercise. After seeing the Fit Club on VH1 I purchased the Smash Diet book. I am now on day 9 of phase one. I have lost 5 pounds. I feel really good and do not miss the meat or sugars. I used to go all day without eating and usually only eat once a day. I have never been an overeater but I see now I was eating many of the wrong foods. The list of what NOT to eat is very helpful. The book makes it clear what you can and cannot eat. It also points out that cheating on the diet is a Choice. I have thought about that statement a few times when I have been tempted to put something in my mouth that is not on the diet. I chose not to do it. I am commited to keep going forward with these changes.
